Experiments in Cooking....

I love, love, love my food processor (at least so far). It's an Oster 11 cup Wide Mouth

So far I've made my fake Cherry Pie Lara Bars in it. Recipe is dead easy.

Go to Aldi's. Buy the following in bags. Dates, Cherries and Whole "Raw" Almonds. Almonds into food processor. Chop. Take out. Dates + Cherries in. Chop. Break up the dates and cherries a bit. add the almonds back in. Spin it around again. Press into a pan that's been lined with wax paper. Let it set. Cut into bars. YUM!!!!!

I also made Latkes with [livejournal.com profile] severinpgh's recipe. They were very yummy. Although I think that next time I'll use oil rather than shortening to fry them. Pretty tasty and they didn't last through the next day. Debbie came by and gave me moral support while I was making them.

And today's adventure involved looking at recipes for Chicken/Dal/Paneer Makhani and then improving from there.

Makhani Like Stuff

1 small onion
2 cubes of garlic
3 cubes of ginger
1 can rotel
fenugreek
paprika
cayenne pepper
milk
sour cream
(damn, I forgot the cilantro)
red lentils
extra-firm tofu
rice

brown the onion, add garlic and ginger. Wait a bit. Add the rotel. Let it heat up and meld. add the seasonings. let it meld some more.

put into food processor. Add a little milk. Add some sour cream. Blend and taste. While doing that, start soaking the lentils in hot water. Put the lentils in the pot (with a little of the last batch of soaking water, not much) Put the rotel mixture in the pot. Let it cook. Decide to add some tofu. Squeeze it between paper towels and then add.

Decide that rice sounds like a good idea too. Make the rice (2:1 water to rice) heat until the water boils. Cover. Turn off the burner. Let it sit for 20 minutes.

Next time, I think that I'll cook and drain the lentils rather than cooking them in the sauce. We'll see. I'm the only one that's eaten it so I'm waiting for the Dano comments.
