So, after Roundtable Tom and I figured out that we were hungry (actually, I think we figured that out before Roundtable was over, but we did have to wait...) We of course had the "where do we want to go" debate. The last couple of times that we had been to Abay we weren't happy with the food, so Tom asked if the parity was right to go this time around. I looked at him and said "the last time I went it was with you, early in the evening and it sucked. Yeah... it should work this time" (the running joke is that I'm about 50/50 on good vs. bad experiences and that Tom has generally had the misfortune of going with me after I've gone with someone else and it's been good)

Beef Sambussa - Two thin shells hand-wrapped and stuffed with a blend of minced beef, green chili peppers and herbs -- this was sooooo good. They were hot, hot, hot when they arrived at the table. They were mostly beef with a little bit of chili (like you had to search for the chilis)

Ye' Abesha Dabo -- Finger-sized portions of Ethiopian wheat pan bread baked with a touch of awaze. -- Still not as good as it was the first time. It just doesn't have enough awaze in it for us (well, Tom has more issues with the lack than I did. My issue was with the fact that one of the piece was a little on the crunchy side.)

Doro Tibs -- Strips of boneless, skinless chicken breast sautéed in a flavorful sauce of awaze, onions and herbs. -- This was pretty good. I should get more of it :)

Kay Sir Dinich -- Potatoes and fresh beets stewed and blended with garlic, ginger and onions. -- Sadly disappointing. I think part of the problem is that it just isn't tart enough for me.

Shiro Wat -- Powdered split peas, lentils and chickpeas simmered in berbere, onions and a combination of seasonings. -- Initially, not so exciting. It got better as time went on, but I don't know if I will be getting it again.

Ye' Abesha Gomen -- Kale, green chili peppers, garlic and onions stewed in a mild sauce. -- It was "okay" I think I wanted the other kale dish though. *shrugs* we'll see. hmmm... I'm betting I could add Cider Vinegar to this one as well. That will probably make it better.
Now, if you think that Tom shared the majority of that with me, clearly you are unaware of his "vegetables are evil" thought process.

He had the Zilzil Tibs (Strips of tender, lean beef sautéed in a flavorful sauce of awaze, onions and herbs) which I really think that he just sees as a means of eating the awaze :) It was pretty good.

I should make up a list of things that I want to try next time ahead of time that way I'm not looking at the menu going "ahhh.... let's see.... "
