Find out what you are missing at the 2008 biennial National Convention in Boston! Your brothers in attendance are experiencing Revolutionary Brotherhood first-hand and want to share this awesome experience with you personally via this blog, pictures hosted on flickr.com and webcam blogs LIVE from the Sheraton Boston.

Don't miss a beat of the Boston Convention! Subscribe to this blog to find out what you are missing out on.

Yeah. This has been a MAJOR disappointment. An hour after I found out which candidates won the PD election and that Atlanta will be the host city in 2010 there is still isn't any information up on the site about either. This had such potential and I suspect there might be a person or two that is really live blogging. I mean heck, [livejournal.com profile] docjeed is actually surpassing the criteria for live blogging since his posts tend to be regular and informative.

edit: In the time it took me to write the entry something was posted. Of course there is no mention of who won the elections or about Atlanta.

*sigh*

I don't think it's false advertising. I think it's some people not knowing what the term "liveblog" really means.

This statement implies, at least to me, that the updates will be happening in relative real time and aren't a re-hash of what I can find on the schedule.

It is now several hours later, and there is still no info about the elected offices. I am wondering when we will find out who received the awards. Tomorrow? Next week?

Yeah, I think you're right here. I guess I didn't read it carefully.

Derek had mentioned something about possible technical issues. Maybe they popped up?

Still. Disappointing, regardless.

The fact that it's 10 bucks a day to have internet access in the guest rooms but there is free access in 2 hour blocks in the lobby for registered guests could have something to do with it.

I don't find that reasoning valid. That perhaps explains why it wasn't a streaming blog, but it doesn't explain why there was only 1 update per day and the update was mostly fluff.

And you mean to tell me that the fraternity wasn't willing to spend <$100 to have continual internet access? That doesn't even make sense. You mean that there weren't Alumni that would be willing to donate that internet access that they had purchased.

You don't need an internet connect to type up the information. All you need is a computer. The amount of time needed to upload the information is certainly less than 2 hours. Was it chunks of 2hours per day or 2 hours per pop with a reset of some random time?

I would have thought that this was something they would have asked the hotel about ahead of time or had the information ahead of time.

National Convention Planning Committee had nothing to do with the blog. I just took a look at it, those posts were by one of the National Office staff who probably isn't as familiar with internet lingo. By live, she probably meant that the pics and posts were going up in Boston as opposed to them waiting till they get back to Kansas City. I doubt it was ever intended to mean up-to-the-minute reports; we're APO, not CNN. Pretty good chance she had responsibilities on the legislative floor or the fraternity store and she made the posts in her free time.

The Director of Communications that was "recently" hired isn't familiar with the terminology "Live Blog"? I say recently because the web page is out of date since at least the end of August.

From the e-mail that she sent
For the first time, Alpha Phi Omega brothers who are unable to attend the National Convention will be able to follow along (emphasis mine) with the exciting events and Revolutionary Brotherhood taking place in Boston, December 27-30 on the 2008 National Convention Blog, LIVE from Boston!

Was I expecting minute by minute blogs/updates? No.
Was I expecting something every couple of hours during the convention "day"? Yes.
Am I still waiting to see on that blog who was elected to the various positions and what city the convention is going to be held in? Yes.
Did it seem unreasonable to me that the Director of Communication was either tasked with the job of doing regular updates or organizing a group to see that they happened? No.
